One of the main aspects of the job writing for this site is coming up with the words to describe what happened in a game after it over. Sometimes, the game inspires words of excitement and joy. This job is fun on days like that. Sometimes, the recap is full of misery and suffering. The job isn as much fun when that happens. But on rare occasions, there simply aren any words in the English language to describe what just happened. Somehow, I have to try anyway https://www.philadelphiagearstore.com/Jim_Eisenreich_Pillow_Cover-305.Let start with the positives. The Phillies scored 12 runs in the game! Travis Jankowski hit a 3-run homer, Bryce Harper had a solo shot, and Andrew McCutchen had a pinch-hit grand slam. Additionally, Alec Bohm went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes, Vince Velasquez and Luke Williams each picked up their own RBIs. The Phillies also walked (6) more times than they struck out (5) in this game, just the third time they have done that this season. On the other hand, though... they also gave up 13 runs. Velasquez gave up 4 in 4.1 innings, but it was the combination of Sam Coonrod and the human white flag David Hale in the sixth and seventh innings that really gave the Nats the opportunity to come back to win this game. Well, that and not intentionally walking Starlin Castro in the ninth with first base open. Joe Girardi management of the bullpen is ultimately what cause the downfall. His habit of over-thinking and over-managing has become a serious problem Andrew McCutchen T-Shirt, costing the Phillies quite a few losses already this season. This game can be added to that ever-growing list.So what do you call a game where the pitching is just as bad as the offense is good? I guess it depends on the outcome of the game. If the Phillies had won this one 13-12, the mentality might be a bit different and the words that come to mind would probably be a bit more positive https://www.philadelphiagearstore.com/Larry_Andersen_Flag-343. But they didn, so the overwhelming feeling is... a mixed bag, leaning more towards frustrated. What word or phrase do you think best describes this game? Let me know over on twitter. Bonus points for a quality SAT word or something that makes me laugh! If you had to describe that game in one word, what would it be?
